Onze kanjer jongerenwerker Janna Vink deelt haar ervaring als jongere maar ook als jongerenwerker over mentale gezondheid! Het interview was voor thrive A’dam GGD Amsterdam!
Ze laat in dit openhartige filmpje zo mooi zien waarom jongerenwerk een rol kan spelen in de steun aan jongeren op de wachtlijst -, tijdens- of na een hulpverleningstraject. Door zichzelf te zijn. Door als een maatje met soortgelijke ervaringen naast de jongeren te gaan staan, hen in contact te brengen met leeftijdgenoten, plezier te maken, aan te spreken op hun talenten (gezonde kanten), daginvulling en verantwoordelijkheden te geven, te sporten. Complementair aan de jeugdhulp.

Dankzij het stadsdeel werken Dock, perMens en The Mall in Amsterdam West heel nauw samen met huisartsen, OKT en jeugdhulppartijen als Levvel, iHUB, Arkin Preventie Jeugd, Opvoedpoli waardoor enerzijds de jongeren die meer hulp nodig hebben snel daar komen waar ze die hulp krijgen en anderzijds jongeren voor opbouw netwerk, talentontwikkeling, plezier, oefenen met autonomie, dagstructuur, dromen bij het jongeren- en straathoekwerk terecht komen. Projecten elders in het land laten zien dat deze manier van samenwerken niet alleen de instroom en de duur bij jeugdhulp beperkt, maar ook dat de jongeren zich beter gesteund voelen. “Doordat ik de mening van anderen hoorde, durfde ik ook mijn mening te geven en voerde ik goede gesprekken. We hadden het over onderwerpen die we normaal niet bespreken maar wel heel belangrijk zijn”, aldus een van de jongeren van The Mall die deelnam aan de dialoogavond in West. Eind april ging een grote groep moedige jonge Amsterdammers uit West met elkaar in gesprek over de online leefwereld.
Stadsdeelbestuurder Fenna Ulichki en directeur Dock, Monique Kuik waren uitgenodigd om te luisteren. Te luisteren naar hen om wie het gaat. Te luisteren naar boeiende gesprekken over dilemma’s wat je wel en niet online deelt, over de kansen van de online wereld maar ook de moeilijke kanten, over “erbij” horen en je mening geven. En over wat de online wereld betekent voor contacten en vriendschappen in de buurt, op straat en op school.
#Jongerenparticipatie: Met elkaar in gesprek gaan ook over onderwerpen die ingewikkeld zijn of schuren: een belangrijk speerpunt van #jongerenwerk. Jongeren een podium geven zodat zij merken dat zij gezien en gehoord worden en invloed hebben: een ander wezenlijk doel van het jongerenwerk.
Dank voor het organiseren Naima Siti, Ezra Jansen en Rahima Achefay. Een mooie start van de manier waarop we de komende jaren de #jongerenparticipatie met JP Vision, PerMens, Dock en The Mall samen met het Stadsdeel West Gemeente Amsterdam willen vormgeven.
De buurtiftar in de #Tagerijn verbond jong en oud, anders en normaal, zwart en wit. Aangemoedigd door de voorbeeldvragen op tafel bleek onze daginvulling hemelsbreed van elkaar te verschillen: van de hele dag vergaderen of koken tot leren voor wiskunde, van gezellig koffie drinken met de buren tot doelloos over straat lopen, van zumba-les tot een ziekenhuisbezoek. Maar uit de antwoorden op de vraag waar we gelukkig van worden bleek dat we toch niet zo van elkaar verschillen: van de zon, van plezier maken met dierbaren, van vakantie :-). Over het feit dat de gele tafel de eerste prijs won bij de Ramadan-quiz willen we nog wel een hartig woordje spreken met de wedstrijdleiding. Maar over het feit dat het een bijzondere, hartverwarmende avond was, goed georganiseerd en met echt echt heeeeeerlijk eten, daar waren we het weer hartgrondig over eens.

Met dankbaarheid en trots kijken wij ⏮👀 terug op wat The Mall in het leven van jongeren heeft mogen betekenen in 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣
Ondanks dat we allemaal al weer enthousiast in 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 2️⃣ 4️⃣ bezig zijn is het goed om soms even stil te staan en successen te vieren, 🎉 extra gemotiveerd 🤩 te worden en om te weten 🔎 wat anders of juist hetzelfde moet blijven. Zo zetten wij ons vol passie ook in 👉 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 2️⃣ 4️⃣ weer voor in jongeren! 🧡

Wij kiezen een kant. The Mall Amsterdam staat voor een staat waarin iedereen recht heeft op een gelijke behandeling. Wij zetten ons in voor een samenleving waarin alle jongeren dezelfde kansen krijgen. En omdat dat in onze samenleving niet het geval is, gaan we strijden. Met de jongeren en voor de jongeren. Met alle vreedzame manieren die we tot onze beschikking hebben. We kunnen niet anders. Want wij kiezen altijd de kant van de mens. Dat is ons werk.
De afgelopen weken was een worsteling: de gruwelijke gebeurtenissen in het Midden Oosten brachten onrust. We zagen de polarisatie onder jongeren toenemen. Een verkiezingsstrijd die zoals gebruikelijk gepaard ging met ongenuanceerde zwart-witbeelden. Anderzijds sprak niet iedereen zich duidelijk uit, uit angst kiezers te verliezen: het hielp niet. We zagen bij jongeren een escalatie van wantrouwen en boosheid naar de overheid. De partijdige stellingname van sommige gezagsdragers gooide olie op dat vuur.
We voelden enorme urgentie om iets te doen. Maar bij elke voorgestelde actie stelde ook wel iemand de vraag: zijn we nu niet te politiek, kiezen we nu niet teveel partij, zijn we nu niet te kritisch? Wij zijn er immers voor alle jongeren, willen iedereen ongeacht kleur, visie, achtergrond, politieke voorkeur of geaardheid een thuis bieden? We willen toch alle mensen zien, kennen en erkennen? We zien het toch als onze taak om mensen te verbinden?
Tot een van de collega’s zei: “wie nergens voor staat, valt voor alles”. ‘Sociaal werk is geen neutrale waarden- of machtsvrije praktijk, maar heeft essentieel een sociaal, politiek en ethisch karakter. Sociaal werk is een “mensenrechtenberoep”! Sociaal werkers proberen elke dag opnieuw uitsluiting van mensen in de samenleving op te heffen, en bij te dragen aan sociale rechtvaardigheid en menselijke waardigheid’.

“De schoorsteen is de ingang en de glijbaan is de uitgang van mijn huis en iedereen is er welkom”. Trots presenteerden de kinderen afgelopen woensdag hun eigen “Tiny House” aan het publiek. Als onderdeel van het #Buurtlab (een samenwerking van Eigenwijks en The Mall) ontwierpen de kinderen in de afgelopen maanden onder begeleiding van #TheBeach en kunstenaar Emin Batman hun eigen kleine droomhuisje. Emin kreeg met zijn oprechte interesse en leuke vragen zelfs het meest verlegen meisje aan het praten over hun verre van conventionele creaties: het ene huis stond op wielen maar kon ook varen, het huis daarnaast was heel minimalistisch ingericht omdat keuken en wc’s waren verborgen in de kast en ik hoop echt dat mijn volgende huis ook zo’n mooie eivorm heeft. Na de presentatie werden alle ouders aan het werk gezet: onder begeleiding van de jonge ontwerpers moesten zij aan de slag om het mooie stadje aan te vullen met moestuintjes, haaien, nintendo’s en clowns. Gelukkig liet geen enkel kind zich door de vraag van Emin wie er niet welkom was in het huis, verleiden om een van de aanwezigen uit te sluiten, dus het was een vrolijke en gezellige middag.
Samen sterker uit de coronacrisis komen door werkgelegenheid te vergroten: Ook dit jaar doet The Mall hier weer aan mee.
Door een banenmotor voor kansarme en laagopgeleide jongeren op te zetten wilde de gemeente Amsterdam deze jongeren een betere kans op de arbeidsmarkt bieden.
De pandemie heeft voor iedereen een enorme impact gehad. Vooral onder jongeren leidde dit tot een sociale en economische crisis. Jongeren met migratieachtergrond en praktisch en middelbaar opgeleide jongeren werden het zwaarst getroffen op het gebied van werkgelegenheid.
Samen voor Jongeren Amsterdam mocht uitvoering geven aan de banenmotor. Jongeren uit de eigen doelgroep of vanuit WPI doorgestuurd kregen een kans op de arbeidsmarkt en konden solliciteren op de vacature assistent jongerenwerker. Na intensieve begeleiding gingen ze aan de slag bij een van de partners binnen Samen voor Jongeren Amsterdam. Van de 23 geplaatste jongeren is slechts 1 uitgevallen en ruim 70% aan het werk of hebben op een andere manier een stap vooruitgezet door dit project. Bijvoorbeeld door hun opleiding af te ronden.
